design process
Amidst the hustle of Tehran, somewhere between the sounds of stone and glass, we sought to recreate something that has long, quietly faded from our lives: the unmediated warmth of being together—the experience of presence in each other’s shadow, without the need for translation or intermediaries. This project is not merely a five-story building; it is an attempt to revive the collective memory of familial living, as it once thrived in the central courtyards of homes past—not through a superficial imitation of the past, but in a contemporary language, attuned to the loud solitudes of modern life.At the heart of the project, a vertical void was formed—a space empty in form, but rich in meaning. This opening is not only a passage for light and air but a manifestation of a kind of “life”—a central life in the spiritual sense, not merely the physical.A place for passing glances, shared silences, and moments in which, without a single word, people become aware of one another’s presence. The form of the building draws from curved lines—lines that not only bring organic vitality to the structure but are also rooted in the collective unconscious of Iranian architecture. These curves are a quiet dialogue with the past—wordless, yet audible.
On the north and south sides, where light finds its way in, we opened terraces that blur the boundary between inside and out. Through spherical and flowing forms on the façade, a complex conversation emerges—between intimacy and appearance. Here, light passes through, but the gaze is held. It’s a balance between presence and privacy; between the desire for connection and the necessity of boundaries.Ultimately, this building is not merely an attempt to construct a home, but to recreate a “lost moment”—a moment in which architecture transcends its role as a container and becomes a living memory; a memory of being together, of stillness, of peace in the heart of chaos.
