design process
A residential building with an approximate land area of 365 square meters comprises 5 residential floors above ground level and one basement floor. The location, context, and constraints of the site, along with spatial limitations in facade design for a project situated in Tehran—a city with significant topographical variations and visual clutter in its facades—are the main challenges faced by the Motaghian residential building. The site's position, due to its limited view and outlook, is such that it is relatively inconspicuous compared to the surrounding buildings, making the building less visible from Motaghian Street. The primary question is how this project can effectively serve as an active urban facade despite these limitations in form and location. To achieve an iconic and visible facade, we decided to create openings on the north and east sides of the project to bring natural light, views, and scenery into the core of the project. Additionally, we integrated the often neglected third facade of the building, typically left undesigned in construction projects, with the main facade, creating a unified facade visible from the thoroughfare. This approach also allows us to provide a visible facade for the project.
